Covering Leicester
If your address has a Leicester postcode, it falls within our Leicestershire coverage.
Our coverage around Leicester also includes Oadby, Wigston and Loughborough.
Where a window in Leicester has no power nearby, a solar shutter avoids running a cable; where there is a socket or spur, a wired motor is simpler.
For shops in Leicester, the shutter is specified around how often it runs, how the frontage looks and what your landlord or council expects.
Planning and safety in Leicester
Planning in Leicester follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the permitted development rules in England. Shopfront shutters usually need planning permission; for houses it depends on the property, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, with Historic England involved for higher-grade buildings.
Electrical work for powered shutters is carried out to BS 7671, with notifiable work in homes (under Part P) self-certified by an electrician registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control.
Fire shutters in workplaces and other non-domestic premises, including the common parts of blocks of flats, are maintained under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, where the responsible person is responsible for keeping fire safety measures in working order. Fire shutters that form part of building work also need approval from building control (council or a registered building control approver).
