Insulated roller shutters & doors

Foam-filled laths that cut heat loss, noise and summer heat for windows, garages and units. Surveyed, made to measure and fitted across the UK.

An insulated roller shutter uses double-skinned aluminium laths filled with polyurethane foam. The foam core and the trapped air layer behind the closed shutter reduce heat loss through the window or door, keep out summer heat, and soften outside noise.

What are insulated roller shutters & doors?

On homes, insulated shutters are mainly about comfort: rooms behind closed shutters lose less heat on winter nights and stay cooler on summer afternoons because the sun never reaches the glass. On garages and units, insulated doors keep working spaces usable and reduce condensation.

How much difference you notice depends on how well the shutter seals at the guides and bottom rail, which is why survey and fitting matter as much as the lath itself.

For commercial and industrial buildings we specify insulated roller doors with deeper laths and better seals; those are covered on our industrial doors page.

Which options can you choose?

  • Lath depthDeeper laths hold more foam; 77 mm is common on garage doors.
  • SealsBrush or rubber seals in the guides and a rubber bottom seal.
  • UseWindows, patio doors, garage doors and commercial units.

What should you check before ordering?

  • Expectations: Shutters help most when they are closed, so they make the biggest difference at night and on hot afternoons.
  • Ventilation: Keep background ventilation in mind in rooms with gas appliances; slotted laths or a part-open setting help.

Questions about insulated roller shutters & doors

Do roller shutters really insulate?

Insulated shutters reduce heat loss when they are closed, mainly at night, and stop solar heat in summer. They complement good windows rather than replace them.

Do insulated shutters reduce noise?

Yes, a closed foam-filled shutter noticeably softens traffic and street noise, especially on single-glazed or older windows.

Is an insulated garage door worth it?

If the garage is attached to the house, sits under a room, or is used as a workspace, the warmer and quieter space is usually worth the difference.

Can I get insulated shutters for a shop or unit?

Yes. Insulated commercial and industrial doors are available in larger sizes with deeper laths and better seals.
