What are roller garage doors?
Because the curtain rolls straight up, a roller door keeps the full width of the opening and leaves the garage ceiling clear for storage or lighting, which is why it is the usual choice when replacing an up-and-over door.
Insulated laths keep the garage warmer and quieter, which matters if it is used as a workshop, gym or utility space, or sits under a bedroom. Most doors are fitted behind the opening on the inside, so the box is hidden, but they can also be fitted on the face of the wall where the inside is not clear.
Garage doors are products covered by BS EN 13241, so the door must carry the right marking and be installed and set up so the safety devices work as intended.

What should you check before ordering?
- Safety devices: Powered doors need force limiting or a safety edge and must be set up and tested at installation. We hand over the instructions and a record of the settings.
- Power cut: Every powered door has a manual release so it can be opened by hand. If the garage is your only way into the house, ask about battery backup.
- Planning: Replacing a garage door is not usually a planning matter, but listed buildings and conditions on newer estates can restrict changes, so check if unsure.

Questions about roller garage doors
How much is an electric roller garage door?
A single insulated electric roller door is usually £1,395–£2,195 including VAT, supplied and fitted. Double doors are typically £2,195–£3,495, and removing and disposing of an old up-and-over door is usually £95–£195 extra.
Can a roller door replace my up-and-over door?
Yes. It fits the same opening, usually behind it on the inside, and gives you back the full width and the ceiling space.
Are roller garage doors insulated?
The doors we recommend use foam-filled aluminium laths, which reduce heat loss and noise compared with a single-skin steel up-and-over door.
What if the power fails?
Each door has a manual release inside the garage so it can be opened by hand. Battery backup is available if the garage is your only entrance.
How long does fitting take?
Most single doors are fitted in a day, including removing the old door and setting up the safety devices.
