Buying

What types of roller shutter do you supply and fit?

Window, door, patio and bifold shutters and roller garage doors for homes; shop, commercial, perforated, counter shutters and roller grilles; industrial, high-speed and fire-rated doors; plus repairs, servicing, motor replacement and conversions.

Do you only fit, or can I buy a shutter supply-only?

Our service is supply and fit, because a shutter that is surveyed, ordered and installed as one job is far less likely to go wrong. Ask us if you have a specific supply-only need.

Which is better, aluminium or steel?

Aluminium is light, corrosion-resistant and comes in many colours, so it suits homes, garage doors and smart shopfronts. Steel is stronger for the money and suits wide openings and industrial use.

Do roller shutters make a house more secure?

A closed shutter puts a physical barrier in front of the glass, which deters casual break-ins. If you need a tested rating, choose a shutter certified to a recognised standard such as LPS 1175 or STS 202; the rating belongs to that product. PAS 24 applies to doors and windows, not to shutters.

Prices & payment

How much does a roller shutter cost?

Guide prices start from about £495 including VAT for a manual window shutter, £695–£995 for a typical electric window shutter, £1,395–£2,195 for a single insulated garage door and £1,495–£2,795 plus VAT for an electric shopfront shutter. See our prices page; you get a fixed price after survey.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you receive a written fixed price for the work described. If something changes, such as an extra opening or hidden damage found when work starts, we agree any change with you in writing first.

How do I pay?

Our standard terms are a 50% deposit when you accept the quotation, 40% on the first day of installation and the 10% balance on completion. Made-to-measure products are ordered once the deposit is received.

Do your prices include VAT?

Home products, and services householders buy such as repairs, servicing and conversions, are shown including VAT with the ex-VAT figure alongside. Commercial and industrial products are shown excluding VAT, with the inc-VAT figure alongside.

Survey & fitting

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations. Repair visits are charged because they include diagnosis and work carried out on the day.

How long does it take from survey to fitting?

Most made-to-measure shutters are fitted three to five weeks after survey. Fire-rated and high-speed doors can take longer. Your quotation states the lead time.

How long does installation take?

Usually one day per opening for homes and shopfronts, and one to three days for large industrial doors.

Will fitting make a mess?

Fitters protect floors and surfaces, drill into sound masonry or steel, and leave the area clean. Any making-good is described in your quotation.

Legal & safety

Do I need planning permission for roller shutters?

Shopfront shutters usually need planning permission. For houses it depends on the property and the council; listed buildings need listed building consent and conservation areas often have tighter rules. Check with your council before ordering; we can supply drawings.

Can a shutter cover a fire escape?

A shutter must never stop people getting out. Over escape windows and doors we fit inside controls and a manual override or battery backup, and in commercial buildings the shutter must fit the fire strategy.

Are powered shutters safe?

Modern motors have obstacle detection or safety edges and are set up at installation. Commercial powered doors should be serviced so their safety devices keep working.

Do you claim any security or fire certification?

No. Ratings belong to the manufacturer's tested product, and we supply the manufacturer's certificate or test evidence with any rated product we quote.

Repairs & servicing

Do you repair shutters you did not fit?

Yes. We repair most makes of domestic and commercial roller shutter. Photos of the shutter, box and any labels help us bring the right parts.

How often should a shutter be serviced?

Busy commercial doors every six months, lighter-use shutters annually, and fire shutters at least annually with a drop test.

Can you convert my manual shutter to electric?

Usually yes, if the curtain, barrel and guides are in good condition.

Coverage

Which areas do you cover?

England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Islands and very remote locations are covered by arrangement.

Do you have a showroom?

No. We survey at your property so we can measure the real opening; samples of lath colours can be brought to the survey.
