A commercial roller shutter is a heavier-duty shutter for business premises such as trade units, offices, schools, surgeries, car parks and community buildings. It is specified around how often it opens, how big the opening is, and what it needs to resist, from weather to break-in attempts.

What are commercial roller shutters?

Commercial shutters work harder than domestic ones, so motor duty, lath gauge, wind loading and maintenance access all matter. A door that opens twenty times a day needs a different motor from one that opens once in the morning and once at night.

We specify steel or aluminium curtains, insulated laths where the space is heated, vision panels where staff need to see out, and controls that suit the building, from key switches to access-control integration.

For landlords and facilities teams we can quote multiple sites together and set up a planned maintenance schedule afterwards.

Which options can you choose?

  • DutyLight, medium or heavy duty motors to suit cycles per day.
  • CurtainSolid, insulated, perforated or with vision laths.
  • ControlsKey switch, push-button, remote, timer or access-control link.
  • SafetySafety edge, photocells and emergency manual operation.

What should you check before ordering?

  • Workplace safety: Powered doors in workplaces must be safe in use and properly maintained. We commission the safety devices and recommend a service interval.
  • Planning: New external shutters can need planning permission, particularly on street-facing elevations.
  • Fire strategy: If a shutter is on an escape route, it must fit the building's fire strategy and must not lock people in.

How does the process work?

  1. Tell us about the opening

Use the quote tool or the form: what it is for, rough sizes and a few photos if you have them.

  2. Free survey

We measure the opening and the space around it, check fixings and power, and talk through options.

  3. Fixed written price

You get a clear quotation with the product, controls, fitting and lead time. Nothing is ordered until you accept.

  4. Made, fitted, handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, set up and demonstrated, with the manufacturer's documents left with you.

Questions about commercial roller shutters

What duty motor do I need?

It depends on how often the shutter opens. We ask about daily cycles at survey and size the motor and curtain so it is not overworked.

Can shutters be linked to our access control?

Yes, most commercial controls accept an input from access control, timers or alarm systems.

Do commercial shutters need servicing?

Powered shutters in workplaces should be maintained so their safety devices keep working. Most sites book a service every six or twelve months.

Can you quote for several sites?

Yes. Send us the addresses and opening sizes or photos and we will arrange surveys and a combined quotation.
