Covering Witney
Surveys in Witney and the surrounding area are arranged directly with you, as part of our coverage across Oxfordshire.
We also cover Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot, so premises in more than one of these places can be quoted together.
Witney sits some 10 miles to the west of Oxford.
Each window in Witney is measured to the real opening, including the lintel, render beads and cill, which is why the survey comes before any price is fixed.
Manual push-up and crank shutters still suit small frontages in Witney where there is no power at the box or the shutter only runs once a day.
Rules that apply in Witney
Planning in Witney follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the permitted development rules in England. Shopfront shutters usually need planning permission; for houses it depends on the property, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, with Historic England involved for higher-grade buildings.
Electrical work for powered shutters is carried out to BS 7671, with notifiable work in homes (under Part P) self-certified by an electrician registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control.
Fire shutters in workplaces and other non-domestic premises, including the common parts of blocks of flats, are maintained under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, where the responsible person is responsible for keeping fire safety measures in working order. Fire shutters that form part of building work also need approval from building control (council or a registered building control approver).
