Rules that apply in Hitchin
As an English town, Hitchin follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the permitted development rules in England.
- Fire strategy: If a shutter is on an escape route, it must fit the building's fire strategy and must not lock people in.
- Workplace safety: Powered doors in workplaces must be safe in use and properly maintained. We commission the safety devices and recommend a service interval.
- Planning: New external shutters can need planning permission, particularly on street-facing elevations.
