Planning and safety in Cheltenham
In Cheltenham, as elsewhere in England, planning questions go to your local planning authority (the district, borough, city or unitary council).
- Escape route: If the patio doors are a way out of the house, the shutter needs an inside control and a manual override.
- Planning: Rear shutters are less visible, but listed buildings and conservation areas can still need consent.
- Electrics: Wired to BS 7671. Notifiable work in homes in England and Wales, such as a new circuit, is self-certified by a competent person scheme electrician or notified to building control.

Questions about patio & bifold door roller shutters in Cheltenham
How much do patio door shutters cost?
Most patio and French doors are £1,195–£1,895 including VAT, electric, supplied and fitted. Wide bifolds cost more; you get a fixed price after survey.
Will a shutter keep my extension cooler?
Yes, an external shutter stops sun reaching the glass, which is far more effective at reducing heat than an internal blind.
Do I need permission for patio & bifold door roller shutters in Cheltenham?
Possibly. External shutters on listed buildings need listed building consent, and conservation areas often have tighter rules. We recommend checking with your local council first.
Do you cover Cheltenham?
Yes. Cheltenham and the GL50 postcode district are part of our coverage across Gloucestershire.
