Rules that apply in Lincolnshire
Across Lincolnshire, planning follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the permitted development rules in England.
- Escape route: If the patio doors are a way out of the house, the shutter needs an inside control and a manual override.
- Planning: Rear shutters are less visible, but listed buildings and conservation areas can still need consent.
- Electrics: Wired to BS 7671. Notifiable work in homes in England and Wales, such as a new circuit, is self-certified by a competent person scheme electrician or notified to building control.

Patio & bifold door roller shutters in Lincolnshire: questions
Can you fit a shutter over bifold doors?
Yes. The shutter runs outside the folding doors in its own guides, so it does not interfere with them. Very wide bifolds are often split into two shutters on a centre post.
Will a shutter keep my extension cooler?
Yes, an external shutter stops sun reaching the glass, which is far more effective at reducing heat than an internal blind.
Is the survey free in Lincolnshire?
For new shutters, yes. Repair visits in Lincolnshire are charged because they include diagnosis and work on the day.
