Rules that apply in Limavady
In Limavady, planning follows the Planning Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and the NI permitted development rules.
- Planning: A perforated shutter is often the type councils will accept on a shopfront, but an application is usually still needed.
- Weather: Perforations let some wind and rain through, so think about the glazing behind and draughts in exposed spots.

Questions about perforated roller shutters in Limavady
Are perforated shutters less secure?
They are slightly lighter than solid shutters of the same gauge, but still form a strong physical barrier. Solid bottom laths add kick resistance.
Why do councils prefer perforated shutters?
They keep shopping streets looking lit and active after hours rather than lined with blank steel, which many shopfront design guides encourage.
