What to check in Bishop's Stortford before ordering
As an English town, Bishop's Stortford follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the permitted development rules in England.
- Planning: A perforated shutter is often the type councils will accept on a shopfront, but an application is usually still needed.
- Weather: Perforations let some wind and rain through, so think about the glazing behind and draughts in exposed spots.

Frequently asked questions
Why do councils prefer perforated shutters?
They keep shopping streets looking lit and active after hours rather than lined with blank steel, which many shopfront design guides encourage.
Are perforated shutters less secure?
They are slightly lighter than solid shutters of the same gauge, but still form a strong physical barrier. Solid bottom laths add kick resistance.
