What to check in Castle Douglas before ordering
In Castle Douglas, as elsewhere in Scotland, planning questions go to your planning authority (the local council, or a national park authority).
- Fire exits: A shutter must not obstruct a fire exit while the premises are occupied. We discuss operating procedures and any interlocks with you.
- Powered shutters: Powered shutters are set up so their safety devices work, and should be maintained. Workplace rules expect powered doors to be safe in use.
- Planning: A new shutter on a shopfront usually needs planning permission, because it changes how the building looks; councils often prefer perforated shutters or internal grilles, and some areas have shopfront design guides. Listed buildings also need listed building consent.
