Planning and safety in Enniskillen
Planning in Enniskillen follows the Planning Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and the NI permitted development rules. Shopfront shutters usually need planning permission; for houses it depends on the property, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, with the Department for Communities consulted.
Electrical work for powered shutters is carried out to BS 7671, carried out by a qualified electrician.
Fire shutters in workplaces and other non-domestic premises are maintained under the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010, where the appropriate person is responsible for keeping fire safety measures in working order. Fire shutters that form part of building work also need approval from council building control.
