Rules that apply in Aberystwyth
As a Welsh town, Aberystwyth follows the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Welsh permitted development rules.
- Planning: A new shutter on a shopfront usually needs planning permission, because it changes how the building looks; councils often prefer perforated shutters or internal grilles, and some areas have shopfront design guides. Listed buildings also need listed building consent.
- Fire exits: A shutter must not obstruct a fire exit while the premises are occupied. We discuss operating procedures and any interlocks with you.
- Powered shutters: Powered shutters are set up so their safety devices work, and should be maintained. Workplace rules expect powered doors to be safe in use.
